About Us

Founded in 1999 as the “Marathon Club,” Texas Running Club began as a student organization at the University of Texas at Austin focused on helping students train for and complete their first marathon. In 2007, the club became an official Recreational Sports Club and adopted the name Texas Running Club to reflect inclusivity of all running levels. Today, we are the official running organization at UT, sponsored by the UT Recreational Sports Club division (www.utrecsports.org) and the National Intercollegiate Running Club Association (NIRCA).

We strive to promote health and community through running at the University of Texas. TRC provides a friendly and supportive environment for every runner to reach their goal, regardless of the goal! Our member’s goals range anywhere from running casually, to sprint races, to racing marathons. Therefore, we invite any UT students to become a part of our club!

During the school year, we meet weekday nights (M-TH) in front of Gregory Gym at 6PM (5:15PM during Standard Time, see our schedule for more info). Runs begin at Greg as a full group and split into distance groups of 3, 5, or 7 miles throughout the route. The route will be announced by an officer at the run. Routes vary in direction and include beautiful areas all over the Austin area! Additionally, on Saturday mornings we host long runs, which are around 9-13 miles.

For those looking to compete, TRC provides opportunities to race cross country and track year-round. These races are free or discounted for competitive members. Additionally, our members run LOTS of local races, and TRC provides discounts for many of these 😛 In the spring, TRC competes in the Texas Independence Relay, which is a 200 mile team-based relay race, and the Intramural Track Meet at UT.
